Concept Automation Programming Package

Overview

Modicon Concept was a Windows-based programming application used in industrial automation.  It was used to remotely program machine controllers known as “Programmable Logic Controllers” (PLCs).

Concept was a successor to text-based ladder-logic programming, which itself was a successor to paper-and-pencil relay wiring diagrams.  Concept was among the last generation of industrial control languages before the advent of the IEC-61131 standards.

When I joined the project, I moved from embedded programming to the Windows application environment during a time of intense turnover in the tech industry.  In my time on this project, I completed 3 major subsystems.  Working closely with the remaining development team, test team, and management to focus on the deliverable, we produced a high quality product with minimum schedule slippage.

Concept received the Control Engineering Magazine Editor’s Choice award the following year.
