The “Torana” server provided a way to control IT devices from a campus environmental control system.
Often these devices use little energy individually, but a fleet of hundreds or thousands of such devices wastes a large amount of energy in aggregate.
Torana integrates Cisco’s EnergyWise protocol, providing a way to turn these devices off in groups, along with lighting, heating, and other building functions that adapt to usage patterns.
This provided about an 8% boost in energy savings in a typical project. That’s not a lot by itself, but as an inexpensive add-on to an existing project, it made the difference on several wins.
